Stellar Energy Selected by General Electric Co. to Supply a Modular Chiller Plant for Turbine Inlet Air Chilling Application on a 540MW Gas-Fired Power Plant in Mexico City
Stellar Energy will supply a modular chiller plant, providing 1,800 tons of refrigeration (TR), to General Electric Co. (GE). The Stellar Energy-designed and fabricated module will provide cooling for a turbine inlet air chilling (TIAC) system applied to the Valle de Mexico combined cycle gas turbine power plant in Mexico City, Mexico. The TIAC system will be applied to the plant's GE LM6000 aeroderivative turbine. The 1,800TR modular chiller plant will consist of five (5) air-cooled chillers, one power distribution module (PDM), one pumping skid and one control system.
Stellar Energy has supplied modular chiller plants for GE's LM6000 turbines at several power plants, including El Paso Merchant Energy, Kings River Conservation, Black Hills Power, Bryan Texas Utilities, Silicon Valley Power, Western Farmers Electric, Braunig Peaker Plant, Mariposa Energy and Petrobras Regap. In September, Stellar Energy announced it was selected to supply two modular chiller plants for a TIAC system that will be applied to the new 400MW gas-fired power plant being developed by GE for Symbion Power Tanzania.
TIAC improves power producers' profitability by increasing a gas turbine's power output by up to 30 percent. By mechanically chilling the inlet air before it enters the compressor, TIAC gives the turbine a boost when it needs it most - in hot weather. In addition to increasing power output, TIAC improves the turbine's heat rate, increasing efficiency and lowering emissions.
Stellar Energy has designed, manufactured and installed TIAC systems on more than 100 gas turbines worldwide, and has more than 1 million tons of refrigeration (TRs) of chilled-water plant experience.
