Stellar Energy Selected by GE to Supply Modular Turbine Inlet Air Chilling System for Pasadena’s Glenarm Repowering Project

Stellar Energy will supply a modular chiller plant, providing 1,720 tons of refrigeration (TR), to General Electric Co. (GE).  The Stellar Energy-designed and fabricated module will provide cooling for a turbine inlet air chilling (TIAC) system applied to Pasadena Water and Power's Glenarm Power Plant. The modular packaged TIAC system will be applied to the plant's GE LM6000 aeroderivative turbine.

Turbine Inlet Air Chilling (TIAC) is a smart investment for the Glenarm Power Plant Repowering Project which was undertaken in order to provide more efficient, reliable and environmentally responsible power.  TIAC is applied to a gas turbine as a cost-effective and efficient way to boost power output. By mechanically chilling the inlet air before it enters the compressor, TIAC gives the turbine a boost when it needs it most - in hot weather. In addition to increasing power output, TIAC improves the turbine's heat rate, increasing efficiency and lowering emissions.

Stellar Energy has supplied modular turbine inlet cooling systems for GE's LM6000 turbines at several power plants, including Symbion Power Tanzania, Valle de Mexico, El Paso Merchant Energy, Kings River Conservation, Black Hills Power, Bryan Texas Utilities, Silicon Valley Power, Western Farmers Electric, Braunig Peaker Plant, Mariposa Energy and Petrobras Regap.  Stellar Energy has designed, manufactured and installed TIAC systems on more than 105 gas turbines worldwide, and has more than 1 million tons of refrigeration (TRs) of chilled-water plant experience.
