Stellar Energy Selected by General Electric Co. to Supply Two Modular Chiller Plants for Turbine Inlet Air Chilling Application on a New 400MW Gas-Fired Power Plant in Tanzania

Stellar Energy, a global provider of energy plant solutions, will supply two modular chiller plants, each providing 1,800 tons of refrigeration (TR), to General Electric Co. (GE).  The Stellar Energy-designed and fabricated modules will provide cooling for a turbine inlet air chilling (TIAC) system applied to a new 400MW gas-fired power plant being developed by GE for Symbion Power Tanzania.  The plant will be located in the Mtwara region in Tanzania.

The TIAC system will be applied to the plant's GE LM6000 aeroderivative turbine.  The two 1,800TR modular chiller plants will each consist of five (5) 360TR air-cooled chillers, one power distribution module (PDM), one pumping skid and one control system.

Stellar Energy has supplied modular chiller plants for GE's LM6000 turbines at several power plants, including El Paso Merchant Energy, Kings River Conservation, Black Hills Power, Bryan Texas Utilities, Silicon Valley Power, Western Farmers Electric, Braunig Peaker Plant, Mariposa Energy and Petrobras Regap.  "Stellar Energy has enjoyed a strong partnership with GE Power over the years.  Our technology works seamlessly with the GE LM6000 turbine and we look forward to working with GE on more turbine inlet air chilling projects in the near future," says Peter Gibson, Executive Chairman, Stellar Energy.

TIAC improves power producers' profitability by increasing a gas turbine's power output by up to 30 percent. By mechanically chilling the inlet air before it enters the compressor, TIAC gives the turbine a boost when it needs it most - in hot weather. In addition to increasing power output, TIAC improves the turbine's heat rate, increasing efficiency and lowering emissions.

Stellar Energy has designed, manufactured and installed TIAC systems on more than 100 gas turbines worldwide, and has more than 1 million tons of refrigeration (TRs) of chilled-water plant experience.
